Features

HANETOOL is a collection of handy tools that run right in your browser — no install needed. Use them for work, school or personal projects. Files are processed in your browser and never stored on our servers.

Essentials (5 tools)

  • Merge, split, reorder, rotate and compress PDFs, add password protection, and export to images or Word. Select several files and they are merged automatically. You can also add page numbers or an image (a logo, a stamp, etc.) to every page at once.

  • Safe CSV editing: leading zeros never disappear and values never turn into dates. Detects the text encoding automatically and supports sorting, filtering and search. Export as CSV, Excel or HTML.

  • Resize, compress and convert images. Cut file sizes dramatically while keeping quality, and download many at once as a ZIP. Can also upload straight to WordPress.

  • Copy text or color codes from your screen just by drawing a box around them. It even reads text that apps won’t let you select — no more retyping phone numbers from a call-center screen.

  • Compare two files (text, PDF or Word) or pasted text side by side. Differences are color-coded, and you can copy changes from one side to the other or edit on the spot. Save the result as text or HTML.

Handy tools (10 tools)

  • Create QR codes for URLs, text, Wi-Fi settings, contacts (vCard), email, phone numbers and map locations. Choose colors, dot and eye shapes, margins and error-correction level, and save as PNG or SVG.

  • Use your computer screen as a big clock. Choose digital, analog, LED, flip-clock or calendar faces, and use the alarm, countdown timer and stopwatch (with laps).

  • Count characters and lines while you convert full-width ⇔ half-width and upper ⇔ lower case, remove extra spaces and line breaks, delete duplicate lines and sort. Set a character limit and get warned when you go over.

  • Type a company or personal name to create images of Japanese hanko seals — round company seals, personal seals, square seals and date stamps. Choose from 7 typefaces, including Mincho and brush styles, and save as a transparent PNG.

  • Generate random passwords that are hard to guess. Set the length, character types and symbols, exclude look-alike characters (0 and O, 1 and l), and create up to 50 at once.

  • Convert length, weight, area, volume, temperature, speed, time, angle, pressure, energy, data size and fuel economy. Includes traditional Japanese units (tsubo, tatami, shaku), plus paper size and dpi charts.

  • Convert between Japanese era years (Reiwa, Heisei, Showa…) and Western years, and calculate age from a date of birth — including the traditional “kazoe” age. Get the age on any date, work out a birth year from an age, and see the zodiac sign, school year and milestone years.

  • Record your screen, a window or a tab, then trim the start and end, hide areas (black box or pixelate) and zoom in on parts. You can also skip recording and just edit a video you already have.

  • Convert video, audio and image formats: MP4, WebM, GIF, MP3, M4A, WAV, JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC — including iPhone HEIC photos to JPEG. Files are identified by their contents, even if the extension is wrong.

  • Automatically scrolls a web page from top to bottom and captures it as one image. No extension needed — just add it to your bookmarks. Sticky menus and cookie banners aren’t repeated, and you can save as PNG, JPEG or an A4 PDF.

Newly added (8 tools)

  • Remove the date and place (GPS) a photo was taken, camera model, author name, company name and more from photos, PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, so they’re ready to share. See a list of everything that’s in the file before you remove it.

  • Crop ID photos from your own pictures to standard sizes — Japanese passport, driver’s license, résumé and My Number card sizes, or a custom size. A face-position guide helps you line it up, and you can lay several out on a 3.5×5 in photo sheet to print at home or at a print shop.

  • Cut out people or products and make the background transparent, white or a solid color. The AI runs inside your browser, so your photos are never uploaded. Process many images at once and save them as a ZIP.

  • Black out or pixelate parts of images and PDFs with rectangles, circles or freehand shapes. AI can find faces in photos for you, and phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses and more can be masked in text automatically.

  • Pick a design and enter your name and contact details to get a print-ready PDF (91×55 mm, Japanese standard size, with bleed). Print 10 per A4 sheet yourself, and add a QR code or logo.

  • Open Illustrator .ai files in your browser and convert them to SVG, PDF or PNG. Check what’s inside even on a computer without Illustrator.

  • Look up kanji you can’t read by drawing them or from a photo — no need to know the stroke order or count. Sketch a picture or a face and similar emoji and kaomoji appear too. Shows each kanji’s readings, meaning, radical and stroke count.

  • Add or remove sales tax (Japanese consumption tax, with per-rate totals for invoices), add and subtract working hours and times, and count the days or business days (excluding weekends and Japanese holidays) between two dates.

What all the tools have in common

HANETOOL is a collection of 23 free online tools that run in your browser: PDF, CSV, images, screen text copy, file compare, QR codes, clock, character counter, digital hanko stamps, passwords, unit conversion, Japanese era conversion, screen recording, file conversion, full-page screenshots, metadata removal, ID photos, background removal, redaction, business cards, vector conversion, kanji lookup and calculators. It is developed and run by a company in Tokyo, Japan.

  • ⚡No install

Just open the page in your browser. Works even on locked-down work computers and shared devices where you can’t install software. Runs on Windows, Mac and tablets.

  • 🔒Processed in your browser

As a rule, files are processed only inside your browser and are not sent to a server — so you can work with data that must not leave your company.

  • 🆓Free, no sign-up

Every feature is currently available for free. No account needed and no usage limits. You will never be charged automatically.

  • 🇯🇵Made in Japan

Developed and operated by a registered company in Japan, with its address and terms published openly.

What leaves your browser

HANETOOL’s basic rule is “processing stays in your browser,” but the following two cases need to talk to a server by design. In both cases, nothing you send us is stored or kept.

HANEPDF
(server compression, etc.)
Only when you choose certain features — compression that keeps text, Word conversion, PowerPoint conversion, saving with a password, OCR for scanned PDFs, and saving after adding or editing text on a page — the PDF is sent temporarily to our server. It is deleted as soon as processing is done.
Web fontsThe typefaces used on screen are loaded from Google Fonts. This is normal for any website that uses external fonts; your files and what you type are never sent.

Everything else is processed entirely inside your browser — including HANERec video and audio, HANEConv files, page images saved with HANESukusho, HANEHanko stamps, HANEPass passwords, photos and drawings loaded into HANECut, HANEMask and HANEPad, and names and addresses entered in HANECard. The AI models used by HANECut, HANEMask and HANEPad are served from our server, but the AI runs inside your browser. For details, see our Privacy Policy and Licenses.

How it works (3 steps)

  1. Pick a toolChoose the tool that fits your task. They all open instantly — no account needed.
  2. Open your fileDrag and drop, or pick a file with the button. Many tools can handle several files at once.
  3. SaveDownload the result. Your original file is never changed.

Find a tool by task

Merge, split or compress PDFs

Combine several PDFs into one, extract only the pages you need, and compress the file — all in one place.

Add several PDF files at once and they are automatically lined up as one merged document. Drag to change the order, and delete pages or fix their rotation on the spot. You can also “split” by selecting just the pages you need and saving them as a new PDF.

Other features include comparing two PDFs, converting to Word (.docx), saving with a password and extracting text from scanned PDFs (OCR). See the PDF merge, split & compress tool for details.

Fix garbled CSV text or vanishing leading zeros

Opens files with the right text encoding automatically, and lets you edit and save without losing the leading zeros in phone numbers or ZIP codes.

HANETOOL’s CSV editor treats every value as text, so nothing changes just because you opened the file. Encodings such as UTF-8, Shift_JIS and EUC-JP are detected automatically. Sort, filter and search, then export as CSV, Excel or HTML.

If you open the same file in Excel, non-English text may turn into gibberish, or a phone number like “0312345678” may become “312345678”. That happens because Excel guesses what the data is and converts its type. See the CSV editor for details.

Make images smaller or resize them

Compress, resize and convert JPG, PNG and WebP images in one go, and download them all as a ZIP.

Pick the quality with a slider while you preview the result, so images never lose more quality than necessary. Load many images at once and process them together.

Too big to attach to an email, slowing down your website, bloating your documents — resizing and compressing solves most image headaches. See the image compressor & resizer for details.

Copy text from your screen or find a color code

Turn on-screen text you can’t select into real text just by drawing a box around it. You can also grab color codes from the screen.

Draw a box around the area you want and the text inside is extracted. Switch between Japanese, English and digits-only modes, or read just phone numbers. You can also click anywhere on the screen to get its color code.

Some business systems and apps don’t let you select or copy the text they display. This tool is made for exactly the text you used to have to retype. See the screen OCR tool for details.

Find the differences between two documents

Shows two texts side by side with additions, deletions and changes color-coded. Works with PDF and Word too.

Put them side by side and only the changed parts are highlighted, down to the exact characters on each changed line. Fix things on the spot, or copy content from one side to the other.

Spotting what changed between two versions of a contract, or in a draft several people edited, is hard work by eye. This tool makes that check much faster. See the text compare & diff tool for details.

When people use HANETOOL

When you can’t install software on your work computer

It just opens in your browser, so you don’t need admin rights or approval from your IT department.

HANETOOL works by simply opening it in a browser, so install restrictions don’t matter. It works the same on Windows and Mac, and there’s nothing to update.

Work computers often lack admin rights, so you can’t add software. Many workplaces require a request even for free software, and approval can take days. With HANETOOL, urgent tasks don’t have to wait.

When files must not leave your company

As a rule, files are processed only in your browser and are not sent to a server — fine even for documents with customer data.

HANETOOL’s processing, as a rule, happens entirely in your browser. The exception is some PDF features (compression that keeps text, Word conversion, PowerPoint conversion, saving with a password, OCR for scanned PDFs, and saving after adding or editing text on a page), which send the file to our server for processing. Those files are deleted immediately afterward and are neither stored nor logged. The screens for those features say so clearly.

Many online tools upload your file to a server for processing. Because the content passes through the provider’s server, they may be off-limits for files your company forbids uploading, such as contracts or customer lists. HANETOOL processes in the browser, so it’s far less affected by such rules.

For tasks that only come up occasionally

No need to install and maintain dedicated software for something you do a few times a year. Just open it when you need it.

With HANETOOL you just open the page when you need it. No versions or licenses to manage, and when someone else takes over the task, sharing the URL is all it takes.

Some tasks only happen a few times a year — merging PDFs at fiscal year-end, for example. Install dedicated software for them and you often find it’s out of date when you finally open it, or missing from your new computer.

When you need to fix a file in the middle of a project

Get it done in one browser tab without breaking your flow.

Leave your document as it is, open a browser tab, do what you need and come right back. All of HANETOOL’s tools share the same look and feel, so even a tool you’ve never used before feels familiar.

While writing a proposal or report, little jobs pop up — “this image is too big,” “I need just one page from this PDF.” Hunting for dedicated software each time brings your work to a halt.

On the road or on a shared computer

Work without leaving anything behind on the device. No account means no login details to type in.

HANETOOL needs no account and no install, so you’re done the moment you close the browser. It works the same on any device, and your files aren’t left on the device or our server.

On a computer at a client’s office, while traveling, or on a shared office PC, you can’t just install software. And services that require an account risk leaving your login details behind on a shared machine.

System requirements

  • We recommend the latest version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
  • HANERec (screen recorder) needs a desktop browser that supports screen sharing. Recording isn’t possible on smartphones (editing a video you already have works on phones too).
  • HANEConv (file converter) loads its video/audio converter (about 31 MB) the first time only. It isn’t reloaded after that, and it isn’t needed for image-only conversions.
  • HANECopy (screen text & color picker) needs permission to share your screen.
  • HANESukusho (full-page screenshot) works in Chrome and Edge on a computer. Because it reads the tab you want to save as an image, you need to allow “Share this tab” each time.
  • AI features load their AI model from our server the first time only: HANECut (background remover) about 6 MB for “Fast” and about 43 MB for “Best quality”, and about 95 MB for HANEPad’s emoji & kaomoji search. They aren’t reloaded after that. The AI runs on your own computer, so your photos and drawings are never sent anywhere.

Using HANETOOL with confidence

HANETOOL processes files in your browser as a rule, has no limits on uses or file size, and publishes its operating company and terms. Below is how HANETOOL handles three things worth checking before using any online tool for work, alongside the typical differences between approaches.

* These are general tendencies of each approach, not a comparison of specific products. Limits and costs of online services vary widely, so check each service’s terms before use.

Where are my files processed?

HANETOOL processes files in your browser as a rule. It is not an upload-and-process service.

As a rule, HANETOOL processes the files you open only inside your browser. Because files don’t leave your device, you can work with data that must not leave your company.

For reference, online tools either send files to the provider’s server for processing or process them only inside the browser. The first can use server power to handle heavy jobs quickly; the second keeps data on your device but depends on your device’s performance. Which is better depends on the files you handle. For business use, check the terms of use and privacy policy to see which approach a service takes.

How much can I use for free? Are there limits on uses or file size?

Every HANETOOL feature is currently available for free, with no limits on uses or file size.

HANETOOL currently offers every feature for free. No account is needed, and there are no daily limits or file size caps. We may introduce paid plans in the future; if so, we will announce it in advance on the FAQ and Pricing pages. You will never be charged automatically.

For reference, what’s free varies widely between online tools — by number of uses, file size, time period or features. For business use, it’s worth checking exactly what’s free beforehand.

Who runs HANETOOL? Are the terms of use published?

We publish our company name, address and corporate number, as well as our terms of use and privacy policy.

HANETOOL is run by JAPANCARNET CO., LTD. Our company name, address and corporate number are on the About Us page, along with our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Commercial Disclosure.

For reference, when choosing a tool for business files, checking that the operator, contact details, terms of use and privacy policy are published makes it clear what happens if something goes wrong. We hope this helps your decision.

Because this service is provided free of charge, we can’t offer individual how-to support or onboarding consultations. If you have questions about how to use a tool, please see the FAQ and each tool’s page.
