Business Card Maker

Pick a design and type your details to get a print-ready business card PDF — either in the format print shops expect (91×55 mm, Japan’s standard card size, with 3 mm bleed) or as an A4 sheet to print yourself.

🔒 What you type stays in this browser. It is never uploaded or stored.

The outer margin is the 3 mm “bleed”. The red dotted line shows where the card will be trimmed.

Empty fields are skipped and the remaining lines move up. Just leave unused fields blank.

Lines that are too long are shrunk slightly. Changing the font may also help them fit.

Logo & photo

Use a PNG (with a transparent background) or a JPEG. The logo goes in the top-right corner, or in the left panel with the “Colored left panel” layout, keeping its original colors. To make a logo background transparent, use HANECut.

The code is 12 mm (10 mm when space at the bottom right is tight), with the caption below it. “Auto” places it in the colored panel for the “Colored left panel” layout, and at the bottom right otherwise. “In colored panel” only works with that layout.

Keep the caption short, such as “Website”, “Careers” or “LinkedIn”. Without a caption, people can’t tell what the code is for or whether it’s safe to scan.

Text in the PDF is vector, not an image, so it stays crisp when printed. Use the “with bleed” PDF for a print shop, and the “A4, 10 cards” PDF to print at home or at a convenience store.

What this tool can do

HANECard is a free tool for creating print-ready business card files. No installation or sign-up is needed. Everything happens inside your browser, and what you type is never uploaded to or stored on a server.

Choose from sans-serif (Noto Sans JP), serif (Noto Serif JP) and UD Gothic (BIZ UDGothic). These fonts cover both Latin and Japanese characters, and all are under the SIL Open Font License, so they can be used for commercial printing.

How to use it (3 steps)

When it comes in handy

Running out of business cards

Make an “A4 PDF, 10 cards” and print it on store-bought business card paper to use the same day.

Stationery stores and online shops sell A4 micro-perforated business card sheets with 10 cards per page (check that the cards are 91×55 mm). In your printer settings, choose “Actual size (100%)” and be sure to turn off “Fit to page”. Otherwise the print shrinks by a few millimeters and won’t line up with the perforations.

Ordering from a print shop

Send them the “Print-shop PDF (with bleed)”.

When color runs to the edge of the paper, it must extend 3 mm beyond the trim so no white edge appears if the cut is off by a millimeter or two. This is called “bleed”, and this tool’s PDF already includes it. Some printers ask for fonts to be “converted to outlines”; if so, send the PDF and tell them the fonts are already embedded.

Leaving out the department or title

Just leave that field blank. The line is removed and the rest moves up.

You can make simple cards with just a company name, or just a name and contact details. For a personal card, leave out the company and include only your name and email.

Text doesn’t fit

Only the lines that overflow are shrunk slightly. If they still don’t fit, split them into two lines.

The width of Latin letters and digits varies a lot between fonts. The same phone-number line may fit in Noto Sans JP but overflow in UD Gothic. So only lines that don’t fit are shrunk automatically, down to about 70% of the original size and no further. If a line still doesn’t fit, split the address into “Address line 1” and “Address line 2”, shorten it, or try another font.
